Stop taking selfies with seals, Yorkshire charity warns visitors

Tourists to Yorkshire’s coast have been informed to cease taking selfies with seals there amid a surge in visitors trying to get Insta-friendly snaps with the ocean animals.

The mammals are being distressed by growing numbers of individuals getting up shut for photos, the Marine Conservation Society has warned.

Dogs off their leads, drones and coastal explorers have all additionally disturbed and disorientated the seals which come ashore alongside the East and North Yorkshire coast yearly to provide start.

Such interplay was particularly harmful, the charity stated, as a result of frightened seals had been identified to desert pups who then had no means of constructing it again to the security of the ocean.

Matt Barnes, a volunteer with the society, stated: “Seals are very vulnerable to disturbance, which upsets their routine of feeding and digestion, increases their use of energy, raises their stress levels and means they are more likely to injure themselves.”
