The Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) will get underway in January, with Klopp set to lose the services of Mohamed Salah (Egypt), Naby Keita (Guinea), and Sadio Mane (Senegal) for the month-long tournament.
Recently, the Reds manager was asked about the relief of having no international break until next year March, but appeared to answer with sarcasm when describing the “small” matter of the Afcon tournament.
“I’ve heard that so often that there’s no international break until March. In January, there’s a little tournament in Africa, I just want to say, and I think Asia is playing games, too – South America as well, great, can’t wait,” Klopp commented.
On Wednesday, following Liverpool’s 2-0 win over FC Porto in the Champions League, a journalist challenged Klopp for what he perceived to be insulting remarks.
However, the Liverpool manager sought to set the record straight,.
