A British Airways pilot who battled coronavirus in a US hospital for eight months is finally back home, say reports.

ABC News reports that despite the long and arduous fight with the disease international pilot Nicholas Synott soldiered on, with his wife at his bedside every single day.

The pilot, who is based in London, took one of his ordinary trips to Houston, USA, in March.

After catching the virus he was hospitalised at U.T. Health and Memorial Hermann Hospital and reportedly had to be placed on a ventilator.

Speaking to local radio station KTRK, the doctors who worked on Mr Synott for months said he went into respiratory failure, was placed on a ventilator and then on a heart and lung machine.

UT Health Dr Biswajit Kar said: “Every organ of his body was affected by COVID-19.

“But yet, because his health was so good as a pilot prior to the illness, he could sustain all this and survive something as serious as this.

“We were firstly overwhelmed by the joy that someone this sick could make it.

“There was always a question, ‘Is he even in there?’ Given the enormous number of the medications the other multi-organ issues that were happening.

“I think all of us on our team agreed that it was his wife.”

His wife Nicki was reportedly at his bedside every day for nearly eight months.

Speaking of the ordeal My Synott said: “With the support of my wife, and the thought of going back to my kids. It was a tough journey but, we’ve got where we are.”

He added that he would like to return to Houston again and wants to visit the Houston Zoo, which he reportedly saw each day out of his hospital window.

He added: “I want to come back and I want to visit all my friends and I want to thank them in person for everything that they did for me.”
